10th Birthday of the Isle of Ely Preceptory No 677

On a really balmy evening; thank goodness for air conditioning; on the 18th. July 2018, 80 Brother Knights assembled at the Masonic Hall, Silver Street, Ely, to celebrate the 10th. Birthday of the Preceptory, having had a dress rehearsal last year, as the Provincial Prior muddled the dates!

Before the meeting was started the Preceptory treated us all to a pre-meeting buffet, which was thankfully received and faithfully applied, as there was not too much left! A wonderful gesture.

The Preceptory was opened by the E. Preceptor Steve Teverson, in a style that we have become accustomed to expect, and after the Muster Roll had been called, a deputation was formed by the Provincial Marshal, E. Knight Robin Shaw, and the Provincial Prior E. Kt. Stewart C.L. Middleton K.C.T., accompanied by his Sub Prior, a retinue of Provincial and Great Priory Officers entered the Preceptory, including the Past Provincial Prior, E. Knight Geoffrey Hewitt and two Past Provincial Sub Prior’s V.E. Knights John How and Richard Beardall.

We then witnessed a magnificent ceremony of Installing as Brother Knights, Companions, Razvan-Iaon Dinita and Marc Beveridge into the degree of Knight Templar. The E. Preceptor was ably assisted by other E. Knights and Brother Knights in performing other parts of the Ritual.

The E. Preceptor then Installed Knight John Taylor, as E. Preceptor in a most competent manner, and after he was proclaimed, he proceeded to Install his Officers for the year, all of which were present apart from four.

E. Knight Colin Birkbeck then explained Knight Templar certificates to three Knights, Chris Sennitt, Tom Jackson and Antonio Orfeo, in a most pleasant manner, after which the Provincial Prior presented them issuing his normal challenge, which they all readily accepted.

After a period of celebration in the bar, we all sat down to a superb meal of Egg and Prawn Mayonnaise, Selection of Cold Meats, Potatoes and assorted salads, Summer pudding, Cheese and Biscuits, tea or Coffee, and of course a piece of Birthday cake made by Rachel Mason, the daughter of Tony Mason, all of these courses were accompanied by the correct form of liquid.

The whole occasion was a most wonderful celebration of how a birthday party should be held and was one that was enjoyed by all who were privileged to have been there.
